The Department of Pharmaceutical and
Biomedical Sciences is the basic science component of the College of Pharmacy at the University
of Georgia. Your interest in our department, in our educational
programs, our research discoveries, and our multidisciplinary
research opportunities is appreciated.
Our faculty members are
deeply committed to achieving excellence in our teaching
and research missions. Teaching in the department involves the
Pharm.D. program (professional students) as well as the graduate
program (M.S. and Ph.D. students).
Research opportunities in our
department are available at the doctoral, postdoctoral and at the professional degree and masters levels. The department has played a central role
in the creation of the UGA Center for Drug Discovery with membership from various departments, colleges and universities in the State of Georgia.
As we continue into this first decade of the second century of the establishment of the College of Pharmacy, we look back at our past growth and
accomplishments. We also look forward to significant discoveries in the future in interdisciplinary research in the areas of structural biology,
biological targets, biochemical pharmacology, toxicology, neurochemistry, biopharmaceutics, bioanalytical chemistry, state-of-the-art molecular
modeling, target-directed syntheses, discovery of new antiviral, antimicrobial and anticancer agents, mechanisms of action of therapeutic agents,
signal transduction and cancer, pharmacokinetics of investigational drugs, nutraceutical products and drug delivery/drug transporters.
We take pride in the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, postdoctoral associates and students, not only in research, but in all aspects of
academic life. Ground breaking for the new Pharmacy Building is scheduled to occur in the Fall of 2007, and the building, when completed in 2009,
will have significant positive impacts on our teaching and research missions.
Sincerely,
Vasu Nair Ph.D., D.Sc.
